欢乐伙伴 – The Online Platform and How to Use it Effectively at Home

MOE欢乐伙伴 is a great tool, don’t waste it!

The primary school Chinese syllabus has been revamped since 2015, starting from Primary 1. Till date, the curriculum planning division has revamped up to Primary 4 and the new syllabus for Primary 5 and 6 will be out in 2019 and 2020 respectively.

Some Positive Changes of the Newly Revamped Syllabus

Thematic topics

The topics in the textbooks are now sorted according to themes. All the stories that appear in both the textbook and workbook and specially curated to ensure that students are exposed to the vocabulary relevant to the topic. Some of these topics lay a good foundation for students to handle the new PSLE oral examination format.

For example, the topic on caring for environment (环保) is now covered in 3B textbook. When students come across related oral videos in upper primary or even lower secondary level, they would have learnt the relevant vocabulary to help them express themselves.

Interesting and fun activities, lesser examination like sections

You can find activities like word search even in workbooks for middle primary. Though there are more comprehension passages. The questions are lesser. This encourages students to read more widely while reducing the stress of completing practices.

Online resources make available for teachers, parents and students

Before the new syllabus came out, teachers have to create Power point slides as part of our lesson preparation (on top of the 1001 things we have to juggle). Now that the resources are available, we can use our free time more effectively. The best thing is that these resources are also accessible by pupils and parents! Now there is no excuse not to revise. Parents are also more aware of what the children are learning in school.

How to use the online platform at home

I highly recommend parents and tutors to use 听说剧场at home to practice reading sentences aloud. Pupils will need to refer to corresponding pages in the textbook for the sentence structures which they will use to practice.

Look out for the microphone icon. Pupils can record their answers and press the play button beside it to listen to themselves. It adds more fun to learning!

There are also practices available for pupils in 读写乐园 section to practice sentence structures taught in the topic. They serve as a good revision after the topic has been covered in school and right before exams.

Many parents are most concerned when it comes to learning vocabulary (生词) in the topic, mainly because this section is closely linked to exams. Using 生字魔法屋 (under 读写乐园), you can revise with your child. Click on the leaves to reveal part of the word. Better still, if your child knows the answer, get them to write down somewhere and click 揭晓答案 to see if they wrote the words correctly.

The best kind of revision for pupils is for them to revise unknowingly. Revision does not necessary need to come in the form of doing practice papers non-stop. If we add a bit of fun into revision, they will not resist and even be more motivated!

Thanks for your enquiry! I’m currently not taking anymore new pupils but do keep a lookout on our site for a new education programme launching in early 2020 which we will be able to reach out to all parents across Singapore.
